How is the PvP Combat Structured?
The PvP in HOTK is meaningful and intractley woven into the story starting at level 40. There are three nations to join, you can join the forces of Wei, Shu and Wu.
There is no penalty for killing a member of a different nation anywhere in the game. For the PvP junkies there is a battleground going every day, all day, in the Wu Zhang Plain, it is a unlimited nation free for all of capture the flag event.
After a nation captures a flag there is a protected 1 hour cool down and then 5 hours of unprotected possession. Hundreds of players are able to participate in this battle, and having the flag extends NPC control over underlying pvp zones.
The leaders of each nation gamble on a certain day of the weak to decide who will participate in the nation wars which is 200 vs 200 event. The object of this battle is to occupy the fort in the center, the winner gets a nation tax, access to one of the fastest mounts, and other great rewards.
Below this there is territory war which is based on legion vs legion.
The leaders of the legions gamble points that the members gain through daily quests, to fight over sections of the maps. There are 15 different fronts to coordinate your members to destroy towers within the territory, then you can take a central flag and win the territory for daily tax bonuses, reduced grocery prices, and increased sales to NPCs.
Then there are a few pvp campaings such as the main campaign of Yun Chang (YC), this is the campaign that is used to gain civil or martial ranks. To gain these ranks you must participate in these campaigns.
There is also a campaign called Poyang which is a pvp based campaign, dependant upon total kills by both sides to decide who wins.
